Your word is an extension of you

Your word is an extension of you

20 He sent his word, and healed them,
and delivered them from their destructions.

Psalm 107:20 (KJV)

Bottom line: Your words reflect who you are.

Teaching

The word of God teaches us that God almighty is one with his word. The presence of his word somewhere amounts to his presence in that location.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:1 (KJV)

Jesus is the word of God made flesh.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 (KJV)

Jesus being God’s word in human flesh declared.

30 I and my Father are one.

John 10:30 (KJV)

Therefore, God is one with his word.

Looking at it in a different light, we would say that the word of God is an extension of God. If God is not physically present in a location, his word which is an extension of Him can get to that location. We can see an example of this in our opening verse:

20 He sent his word, and healed them,
and delivered them from their destructions.

Psalm 107:20 (KJV)

The Psalmist declared that God not being present with the people, sent his word and healed them. This means that his words are an extension of his presence.

We can see another illustration of this in Matthew 8:7-8

7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

Matthew 8:7-8 (KJV)

The Roman centurion understood that the Words of Jesus amounted to his presence. And the Bible records that at that same hour that Jesus released the word, the centurion’s daughter was healed.

Before leaving the earth, Jesus said:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Matthew 28:20 (KJV)

Jesus was leaving the earth, but still, he said, “I am with you always”. How is he with us while he is in heaven? Through his word. He left, but His words never left us. As His words remain in our hearts, His presence remains with and in us. Hallelujah.

Therefore, as you study the words of Jesus daily, you become more and more acquainted with his presence. If you want to know the Lord better, you must study and know his words, because he is one with his word.

However, we were made in the image and likeness of God. This means that we were created to function like God. Therefore, as God is one with his word, so are we one with our words.

Our words reflect who we are on the inside. The Bible says:

45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Luke 6:45 (KJV)

Our words reflect the state of our hearts and are an extension of our being. No man has ever risen beyond his words. Our life course is directed by the words from our lips. You become what you say. Therefore, develop the right vocabulary today through the word of God and put your life on the right trajectory in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reflection

  • Do you pay enough attention to God’s word?
  • Are you careful enough with the words that proceed out of your mouth?

Prayer

Thank you, Lord, for your word in my life. Thank you because your presence is ever real as I study and meditate on your word daily. I pray that my heart be filled with your word so that I can reflect you, everywhere I go I Jesus’ name. Amen.
