Grow your vision

You can see only as far as you know

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Ephesians 1:17-18 (KJV)

Bottom line: The Knowledge of God will expand your vision.

Teaching

Today, great men achieve great things because they have a vision in their hearts concerning a particular subject matter. Their vision is what gives them the drive and propels them into territories that others have not been in before.

God gave Abraham a vision of his descendants (Genesis 13). God was to make Abraham’s descendants as many as the sand on the seashore and as bright as the stars in heaven. This vision about his seed kept him going till the end.

God gave Moses and the children of Israel a vision of a land that flows with milk and honey. They endured the journey through the desert because they were in pursuit of this land.

Jesus had the vision of mankind being delivered from sin and from the power of the devil. So, he endured the suffering of the cross, in order to see this vision come to pass.

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)

We see from these examples that vision is quite important if we are going to achieve anything on earth. The Bible says:

18 Where there is no vision, the people perish:
but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)

However, a shallow vision will not take you as far as you need to go. Whenever the Lord puts a vision in your heart, it comes in the form of an infant which needs nourishing to mature.

You can see just a small part of the whole picture. The vision needs to grow and mature before you’ll have a clear sight of the full picture.

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

1 Corinthians 13:11-12

How then do you feed your vision? How do you cause your vision to grow and mature? It is simple. You must grow in knowledge.

You will be able to see only a small portion of the vision if you are a child in the things of God. The knowledge of God is what will transition you from a childhood phase to an adult phase. And in the process, your vision will grow too. You’ll be able to see clearer and better.

Our proof text says:

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Ephesians 1:17-18 (KJV)

Sound knowledge of God is the light that will illuminate your sight and your path as well.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.

Psalms 119:105 (KJV)

The knowledge of God’s word will cause the vision of God in your heart to grow, mature, and become ripe. When your vision is ripe, men will gather around you to benefit from it. They will automatically be pulled towards you. On the other hand, no man is attracted to a tree that has unripe fruits.

Therefore, grow your vision today by increasing your knowledge of God through his word. And you shall be like a tree planted by a river of water, which bears fruit in its season.

  • Psalm 1:1-3 [Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; And in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season; His leaf also shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.]

Reflection

  • What is God’s vision for your life?
  • Have you sought to know more about this vision by approaching God in prayer?
  • Are you walking in the direction which you must follow to accomplish God’s vision for your life?

Prayer

Thank you, dear Lord, for putting in me a great vision that shall pull men unto me for your glory. I pray that as I continue studying your word, this vision becomes clearer and brighter in Jesus’ name, Amen.
