But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 14:26 (KJV)
Bottom line: The Holy Spirit is the road map to your “promised land”.
Teaching
From creation to the day Jesus was born, no one had ever seen God, because God is Spirit. Yet God created us with a definite purpose in life. God our creator is therefore well placed to guide us into his perfect plan for our lives. But there was one challenge in following God before: God lives in an invisible realm, whereas we live in a physical world. How then can we follow a God we cannot see? This is one big question that God’s people asked in the Old Testament days.
Actually, one of the major challenges that God had in leading his people was that they wanted a leader who they could see with their physical eyes.
In the days of Moses, God through the hands of Moses and Aaron, led the children of Israel out of Egypt and promised to take them to a land that flows with milk and honey. However, on their way, the people rebelled against God and asked Aaron to make a God that they could see. So, Aaron made a golden calf which they started worshipping as the God who took them out of Egypt.
1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.
3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.
4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Exodus 32:1-4 (KJV)
God through Moses rebuked them, and things went back to order.
On another occasion, in the days of Samuel the prophet, the people got tired of being led by a God whom they could not see. So, they demanded that Samuel should provide them with a king like the other nations had.
5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.
1 Samuel 8:5 (KJV)
God desired that his people learn to follow him, the invisible God, not man, but they just didn’t want to.
Then, Jesus came into the picture. The Bible says God was made flesh and dwelled among us.
This time, the invisible God was made visible through the person of Jesus Christ.
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Hebrews 1:2-3 (KJV)
Jesus came to show us the way to the Father. But many still rejected him. After he was done with his assignment, he left and now is sitting on the right hand of God the Father in heaven. But, before leaving, he said:
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 14:26 (KJV)
Jesus didn’t leave us without direction. After he left, the Holy Spirit came on earth, in our lives to guide us in the way we must go.
So, every Christian has a roadmap to his or her glorious destiny. The Holy Spirit in you will give you specific direction when you ask him to. All that you need to do is to ask him. He lives in you and has a role to accomplish in your life. This role is to bring you into the glorious destiny that the Lord has ordained that you should walk in.
Therefore, you must not be confused in life today; what career path to follow, what husband or wife to marry, what country to travel to, etc. The Spirit of God is there to guide you, just as he guided the children of Israel from Egypt to Canaan. Hallelujah!
