Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Philippians 2:5 (KJV)
Bottom line: Walk with the mind of Christ.
Teaching
A lot of people desire change in their lives. They want to see their lives improving daily. They want positivity in every effort they put in. This is a normal desire. But, only a few among them are willing to pay the price for the change.
We must understand that, before positive change occurs in any area of our lives, this change must begin with us. You can’t remain the same person you have always been and see a change in your marriage, career, relationship, job, etc. The change must begin with you.
The Bible says:
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:3-5 (KJV)
Jesus was saying that, before you can change another person or another thing, you must begin with yourself.
So, what change must you effect in your life to see positive results? The first change that must happen is the transformation of your mind, i.e. your way of thinking.
When you got born again, God took away the old rebellious spirit in you and gave you a new Spirit. Your heart was changed and renewed. You received a much more superior spirit.
However, your mind remained the same. Your thinking process was not renewed. So, you are operating a new spirit with an old mindset. This is the reason why your Christian life seems to be dysfunctional. This is the reason why you obtain little or no results when you pray, or you confess the scriptures.
It is like equipping a car with the engine of a Ferrari but leaving the car with old parts. At high speed, the car parts will eventually fail because they can’t support the speed of the new engine. So, Jesus said:
36 And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.
37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.
Luke 5:36-38 (KJV)
Therefore, you must equip yourself with a new mindset. You must put on the mind of Christ.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Philippians 2:5 (KJV)
The mind of Christ is a mind that thinks as Christ thinks. It causes you to see things from God’s perspective and you’ll begin to react to different situations the way Jesus would have you react. You will speak words that are consistent with the life of God in you, and you’ll function from a kingdom perspective.
As you study the scriptures and meditate on them daily, God will transform your mind with His word. With a transformed mindset, you will begin to see changes in every other aspect of your life and the lives of those around you.
Further Study
- Romans 12:2 [And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.]
Reflection
- How often do you study and meditate on the word of God?
- Do you give God’s Word the necessary importance it should have in your life?
- Only God’s word can give you the right mindset, for your proper functioning.
Prayer
Thank you, dear Lord, for giving me a new heart (spirit) through Christ Jesus my Lord and Savior. I pray that as I study and meditate on your word daily, I will acquire and function with the mind of Christ. Thus, I will excel and see positive change in everything I do in Jesus’ name. Amen.
