For who hath despised the day of small things?
Zechariah 4:10 (KJV)
for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven;
they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
Bottom line: From small beginnings, come great things.
Teaching
Everything we see around us was built by someone. Every house, every company, every family, every career, every car, every furniture, even the whole world. But all these things were not built in an instant. These things didn’t just appear fully made. Each builder began from somewhere, before eventually getting to the finished product. This is how God designed life. God himself is a master builder. He made the very foundations of the earth and created the heavens as well.
Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.
Nehemiah 9:6 (KJV)
But he didn’t do all that in an instant. Science says the earth was born from a big explosion and everything we know spontaneously came to life. This is not true according to the Bible. The creation of the earth was a process that lasted 6 days.
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Exodus 20:11 (KJV)
As great as God is, he never created the world in a day, or an hour, not because he could not do it, but because he established the principle of time and process, in creation. He was teaching us that time and process are vital elements if we must build anything durable.
Often, we try to bypass these two important aspects to attain our objectives as quickly as possible. But the truth is, anything built hastily will not last long. Time and process are factors that cannot be detoured.
History has proven that the finest dreams are realized in due process and time. Take Martin Luther King as an example. He had a dream to see a black American in the white house and the rights of the black American people recognized. Though we haven’t yet gotten there, his dream has lived through time and the hearts of people, and constant efforts are made by different generations to see it come true. The results of such efforts are already seen as America has got one black American elected as head of state.
Jesus is another perfect example. He was the plan of God almighty for the redemption of the world from sin. God had set up this plan in his heart even before man fell into sin because he is an omniscient God.
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Revelation 13:8 (KJV)
But God had to wait for close to 10,000 years before putting his plan to execution. And after laying his life on the cross and providing salvation for humanity, Jesus did not pass judgment on the earth right away.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
2 Peter 3:9 (ESV)
Jesus still gives time for the world to turn to him and choose the path of life.
If the Lord almighty can be patient to see the work of his hands come to completion, then, you too can.
You must exercise patience with your dream. Don’t give up just yet. All it needs now is just some more time and care. Keep building the different pieces daily, and when the time is right, you will be standing on an edifice.
For who hath despised the day of small things?
Zechariah 4:10 (KJV)
for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven;
they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
God almighty also performs such master crafts with our lives. So don’t give up on God. He is slowly putting the pieces of our glorious destinies together. And at the appointed time, you will be amazed at how events will suddenly unfold in your favor. You will have the impression that everything is working out for your advancement.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28 (KJV)
Therefore, exercise patience today. Don’t give up just yet!

- Matthew 13:31-32 [Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof. ]
