The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

Matthew 6:22 (KJV)

Bottom line: Focus is required if you must finish the journey of life successfully.

Teaching

Many out there believe that good things happen by chance or luck as they call it.  Well, experience has taught us that success in life doesn’t come by chance or luck. Things don’t just happen, but they are made to happen.

In science, there is a brilliant scientist, called Isaac Newton, who formulated a law which states that:

“If a body is at rest or moving at a constant speed in a straight line, it will remain at rest or keep moving in a straight line at constant speed unless it is acted upon by a force.”

In other words, nothing will happen until we cause it to happen, and nothing will stop happening until we cause it to stop happening. Therefore, things don’t just happen without our personal efforts.

Our opening verse says:

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

Matthew 6:22 (KJV)

This scripture is talking about focus. God is saying that to achieve anything in life, you must learn to look in one direction and keep your focus. Success comes only when vision is maintained, and effort is put in to cause this vision to turn to reality.

Many people have great ideas, and they start new companies or businesses, but eventually abandon them along the way, because they saw something elsewhere that seems to be better than what they are doing.

The Bible says:

25 Let thine eyes look right on,
and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26 Ponder the path of thy feet,
and let all thy ways be established.
27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left:
remove thy foot from evil.

Proverbs 4:25-27 (KJV)

God needs our focus so that He can effectively lead us to our glorious destinies. Many things in life can sway our gaze away from the Lord, such as our daily pursuit for more money, our desire to get married and have a family, and many other things. But the Bible says we must maintain our focus. We must not allow the affairs of this world to distract us from our vision and mission for the kingdom of God.

Paul the Apostle explained this to his spiritual son Timothy in a different way.

No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

2 Timothy 2:4 (KJV)

The prophet Isaiah puts it this way:

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.

Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)

Therefore, I say to you today, fix your gaze on the Lord and have your eyes focused on your goals and aspirations. Work towards them consistently and don’t turn to the left, or the right. Then surely, the fruits of your labor shall appear to all.
